In partnership with the World Resources Institute, ClientEarth, the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, the IUCN Regional Office for Mesoamerican, the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, the International Development Law Organization, the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law, GLOBE International and Conservational International-Peru, the IUCN Environmental Law Centre (IUCN-ELC) has invited a range of expert lawyers and organizations doing legal work related to REDD+ to participate in this event.
With the ultimate aim of helping countries, especially developing and least-developed, move to action in progressing law and governance frameworks for REDD+, the objective of this event is to:
- Enhance practical understanding of current legal and institutional approaches to REDD+, with a focus on benefit sharing and participation; and,
- Provide practical examples at the national and sub-national levels.
Experts from all constituencies (Secretariat, Commissions, Members and Partners) will explain issues and challenges related to law and governance for REDD+, particularly related to benefit sharing and participation. This training will be illustrated with practical on-the-ground examples from different parts of the world. Participants will be invited to discuss specific questions and come up with potential solutions.
