Sustainable Use of Jeju Natural Resources for its Indigenous People and Environment Conservation

Amorepacific strives to create a life of beautiful harmony among nature, people and company. Especially, to minimize the impact of our corporate activities on the environment, we respond to climate change, protect the earth’s biodiversity and implement green campaigns.

As the only cosmetic company owning tea farms in the world, Amorepacific had cultivated the wasteland and created tea farms since 1970’s, keeping special relationship with Jeju Island. Green tea farms in Jeju Island are working as an advance guard for lowering emissions of greenhouse gas.
Since 2010, Amorepacific has carried out a fair trade campaign called ‘Beautiful Purchase’, based on three principle - safe raw materials, environment conservation and community contribution - in the process of selecting and buying raw materials, ultimately striving to bring out positive impact on the environment and society. The first ‘Beautiful Purchase’ was with the Camellia Village in Jeju Island and by collecting seeds and ripe camellia fallen naturally, this environmentally friendly method is supporting the native economy and providing job growth for local neighbors.

Amorepacific signed a memorandum of agreement with the Jeju Biodiversity Institute to collaborate on research in rare species and endangered species of Jeju Island and continuously promoting cooperation projects. Starting from 2012, with Jeju Biodiversity Institute, Amorepacific is publishing an illustrated book of Jeju Island flora with information and traditional knowledge of plants in Jeju Island. This illustrated guidebook is to help understand the assets of flora in Jeju and enhance its value to contribute in conservation activities, thereby taking the lead in social development and its local people in Jeju Island.

Moreover, to conserve environment, scrapped materials derived from tangerine peels and seaweed are used as recycled papers and reused as several products’ packages.
