The south country comprises over 70% of the earth’s biodiversity but it has been given less attention for conserving their resources in terms of policies. It is obvious that the biodiversity resources in the tropical south countries are not only in high richness but also in danger of extinction due to the excessive utilization and habitats degradation. Thus the effective action plan and management strategies are urgently needed to increase resilience the deterioration of nature resources. Realizing that, since 1978, the United Nations has established the South-South Cooperation aiming for the exchange of resources, technology and knowledge among the south countries through the leading institutions.
South South Cooperation has sharing knowledge, technique and know-how according to mutual cooperation between developing countries. And announce joint declaration to build up common interests about SSC in Columbia 2010. Also, reaffirming that states have sovereign rights over their own biological resources in accordance with resolutions of CBD 1992 and 2002. In recent years, adopt access to genetic resources and Benefit-Sharing(ABS) with regard to international regulation in CBD, 2010. It is necessary to compromise cooperation that suits as labor-intensive technique for developing countries
CBD process has a multi-year programme of work on South-South cooperation (decision X/23). New Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for 2011-2020, the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, which lays out 5 sets of strategic goals to be achieved by 2020 and the communique on the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of G77 plus China supporting the adoption of the multi-year plan of action on the south-south cooperation on Biodiversity for development at the CoP 10
On the other hand, the contents which WCC is to find about South-South Cooperation in 2012 are as follows: 1] promotion of the awareness of bio-diversity preservation among the nations rich in bio-diversity & establishment of international network for information-sharing, 2] Development of South-South Cooperation program by IUCN & CBD membership countries, 3] Educational program development for cultivation of human resources and capacity intensification related to developing countries´ preservation of biodiversity, Regarding with biodiversity conservation in the south, the Republic of Korea has been implementing the South-South Cooperation to initiate technical cooperation and resources exchange among developing countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. These activities support in some extents to ensure sustainability of natural resources in these countries.
The poster will mainly focus on sharing knowledge and outcomes of biodiversity conservation activities among the implementing countries, leading organizations as well as attending institutions of the Congress. The outcomes of event toward IUCN work for valuing, conserving and sustainably using biodiversity and an action for effective management of natural resources.
