Island nations have special energy problems which are exacerbated by the lack of land resources. Their special economic, political and environmental characteristics require an innovative approach to enable them to meet their energy requirements. Many island nations are totally dependent on imported petroleum fuels which represent a sizeable portion of their GDP.
The poster will try to depict a clear link between energy systems and the natural ecosystems. Island ecosystems are fragile and vulnerable therefore energy systems have to be planned out carefully to reduce their impacts and prevent further degradation and losses of biodiversity. The purpose of the poster is to generate discussions on the best practices to employ to provide the much needed energy services in a sustainable manner.
