Primarily, the knowledge café is aimed at; sharing know how on aspects of curriculum orientations, teaching & learning approaches, transformative research (action & applied research), community engagement, students participation and networking for a green economy and sustainable management and use of ecosystem services within the broader context of education for sustainable development in higher education and the concept of ´greening higher education´.
The knowledge café will also - where possible - seek to establish agreements, build support and seek commitments between, amongst and from various stakeholders on the need to ´green higher education so as to develop, foster and enhance appropriate green skills, knowledge, perspectives, attitudes and value orientations necessary for greening the economy, eradicating poverty, improving food security, managing ecosystems and sustainably utilizing ecosystem services within the broader context of sustainable development using education for sustainable development as a strategy.
Specifically, it aims at:
* Fostering a mutual understanding on the critical role that universities can play (within their core mandate of teaching, research and community engagement) in bringing about a shift towards a green economy and ecosystems management using ´Higher Education for Sustainable Development´ as a strategy/tool.
* Exploring areas of common interest across disciplines and sectors as well as their potential contributions in terms of strategies and green skills for sustainable development.
* Providing an opportunity to reflect on ongoing initiatives in greening higher education - such as greening university curricula, operations, facilities, grounds and infrastructure for sustainability.
* Networking, sharing experiences and exploring possible partnerships or joint ventures between and amongst universities and other stakeholders in higher education - within the framework of the Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES).
