The WCC takes place between two other major international meetings where governments meet to chart a future for the natural environment and human development; The UNCSD (or Rio+20) in June and UNCBD COP11 in October. Greening the world economy is a central feature of both international meetings. In this discussion participants will have an opportunity to review the lessons of Rio+20 and their implications for the CBD COP, particularly the implementation of the 2011-2020 Strategic Plan. Topics for review and discussion include progress on:
• Sustainable Development Goals to replace the Millennium Development Goals
• Getting beyond GDP as a measure of national welfare
Green economic policy, the removal of environmentally harmful subsidies and the creation of biodiversity positive incentives at the national level.
