What do we want the world to look like in 2050? The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) underwent an 18 month process to answer this question, involving extensive dialogues with over 200 companies spanning 20 countries. The results were gathered in 'Vision 2050', a report that outlines transformative changes necessary to allow a projected 9 billion people to live well within the planet's limits in 2050.
This interactive pavilion event highlights solutions currently being implemented by the business community on our shared path to 2050. The workshop is divided in two parts of one hour each. In the first part we present specific tools to evaluate impacts and dependencies on ecosystem services and showcase existing business solutions in the chemicals, agriculture, forestry and energy sectors. In the second part we show examples of partnerships between businesses and NGOs, academia and governments, and how these have resulted in the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources.
We will focus on engaging all participants to jointly answer the question 'How can we scale up business solutions for living well within the planet's limits?' In a group discussion we will ask how existing solutions can be improved; what the role is of NGOs, academia and governments; and how partnerships can be scaled up and leveraged.
The workshop aims to:
1) Raise awareness of existing and successfully implemented solutions.
2) Capture an energetic brainstorm of diverse workshop participants to improve scaling up business solutions for living well within the planet's limits.
