To respond to the concerns expressed on many occasions by Caribbean IUCN Members and stakeholders about the impacts of hotels and resorts on biodiversity in the insular Caribbean, IUCN developed a set of Biodiversity Principles for Siting and Design of Hotels and Resorts. The Principles are targeted at all relevant stakeholders, including planning authorities, tourism development agencies, developers, investors, hotel managers and management companies, project managers and consultants, architects and construction firms.
This Knowledge cafe aims at building on the lessons learned during this project and at promoting further collaboration among the various organizations working in the Caribbean on tourism and biodiversity. During the session, participants will work together to identify strategies for implementation of the principles, potential synergies among initiatives, and explore the interest in a joint initiative focusing on biodiversity and tourism that would address needs identified.
