Sacred Land Film Project with the Sacred Natural Sites Initiative and the IUCN Specialist Group on the Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas
Film Screening: “Standing on Sacred Ground” and Launch of the Korean Language Publication: “Sacred Natural Sites: Guidelines for Protected Area Managers”.
Sacred Natural Sites are a universal phenomenon found in most countries. These are areas of land or sea that hold special spiritual significance for peoples and communities. Sacred mountains, rivers, lakes, forests and islands have been conserved by indigenous peoples and local communities for thousands of years. They can be considered the world’s oldest protected areas because many support high levels of biodiversity.
