Green Environment Centers (GEC) shall develop, distribute, educate and promote environmental technologies that meet the needs and specific conditions of each region and shall, in addition, actively participate in the exchange of information and the resolution of regional environmental issues in order to bring about environmentally friendly regions.
GEC have been established in eighteen locations throughout the nation in accordance with Article 18 (Appointment and Operation of the GEC) of the Environmental Technology Development and Support Law, and have the following purposes:
i) Investigation and research for local environmental improvement as well as environmental technology development- The research projects are designed to look into ways to resolve environmental problems while also seeking out methods of achieving reductions in environmental pollution levels and improving the waste treatment process of companies so that new environmental technologies can be developed and distributed.
ii) Supporting enterprises with necessary environmental technology- the Center shall consult with businesses and supply technical support to assist them in preventing and reducing environmental pollution during their production activities. Moreover, the Center shall assist businesses in managing environmental pollution control facilities effectively. This project shall help local businesses become environmentally friendly.
iii) Environment education for green growth- The purpose of environment education programs is to train the staff of the environment related organizations, those responsible for environmental matters within companies, and local residents through the holding of various kinds of seminars and workshops on environmental research and environment related subjects so as to increase the understanding of cutting edge technologies and improve environmental awareness.
In this pavilion, firstly, the vision, purposes, role and outcomes of GEC, described as above, will be screened by the image for about 10 min. Secondly, the principal outcome cases related to natural environment conservation (eg., restoration of severly contaminated rivers, lakes and coast) will be presented for about 60 min with PPT version. Finally, The principal outcome cases carried out by Jeju Green Environment Center in order to conserve the naturally beautiful and clean environment of Jeju Island will also presented with PPT version for about 20 min. Moreover, the leaflets and souvenirs to introduce GEC will be given to visitors.
