The objective of the event is to launch the new strategy for UNESCO's World Heritage Marine Programme. It will set out the goal of what the programme aims to achieve by 2022 and the actions and activities it plans to set up to get there.
The 45 marine World Heritage sites cover 1/3 of all marine protected areas on the planet. The network of sites holds the highest internationally recognized status for conservation. It is the only network of MPAs existing today that is being held accountable for its conservation actions on a continuous basis and thanks to an increasingly more efficient monitoring and evaluation system implemented jointly by IUCN and the World Heritage Centre
A short presentation will highlight the overall goals of the 10yr strategy, the actions and activities selected to achieve it, and will show the ocean conservation community how we jointly can conserve the best of the best our oceans have to offer
