H.E. Ms. Heidi Hautala is the Minister for International Development in the Finnish government since June 2011. She is in charge of development policy and cooperation and the government’s ownership steering issues. Prior to her minister post, Ms. Hautala was a member of the European Parliament and the chair of the Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights and thus in charge of the European Parliament’s human rights policy in EU external relations. Throughout the years, she has promoted the questions of human rights, transparency, environmental responsibility, gender equality and global justice.
H.E. Ms. Hautala has an extensive experience in working in and with the civil society. She has chaired various CSOs, for example the Finnish Service Centre for Development Cooperation (Kepa), an umbrella organisation of Finnish CSOs active in development cooperation. Previously, Ms. Hautala has also been a member of the Finnish Parliament.
