World population is expected to reach at least 9 billion people by perhaps 2050, and expected increases in wealth will lead to even greater demand for meat and other animal protein. It does not seem reasonable to expect that the needed increase in food production can occur without increasing the land used for agriculture, or the pressure on fisheries.

How can the need for food production be harmonized with the need for functioning natural systems? Are there new management techniques or technologies that will allow both of these needs to be fulfilled?

The technology is ready for ecosystem restoration to produce sustainable food security; sustainable cash crops (Cocoa, and many others); and restoration of forests with the same species or most of species that existed in current deforested land on the global tropics to protect biodiversity still existing in remaining natural forests. This also reduces pressure on Indigenous Peoples collective territories.

2. In current scenario of greening agriculture debate, what would be the focus of agriculture research and development? Who will be investing in for agriculture innovation and who ultimately will benefit from it?

3. Agriculture standard non-harmonization, be it at international, regional and country level, causes potential food losses; what actions are necessary to achieve harmonization in existing agriculture standards?

4. Food waste, be it at food processing, distribution or consumption stage, is currently costing us a third of global food production; what actions are necessary to tackle food waste problem?
