*Korean ginseng is known as a specialty, indigenous to the soil of Korea which is known and recognized world wide.. It is Korea’s national heritage that is very important historically, culturally and industrially. Furthermore, Korean ginseng is Korea’s representative agricultural crop for special use whose excellent quality is recognized world wide and has been used as an important medicinal means among especially oriental countries for a long time. The history of Korean ginseng can be traced back more than 2,000 years. Based on documentary records, the history of overseas exporting of ginseng can be traced back more than 1,500 years ago. The characteristics and qualities of the Korean ginseng produced in Korea, that is, the ginseng of the ancient Three Kingdoms of Korea (Goguryeo, Baekje and Shilla), are described in detail in the book of Sin-Nong-Bon-Cho-Gyung-Jip-Ju, the medical book written by Do Hong-Gyung 1,500 years ago during the time of the Yang kingdom. So we can assume that today’s straight ginseng of the Gesung region is associated with the ginseng of Goguryeo, the semi-curled ginseng of the Pungi region is associated with the ginseng of Shilla and the curled ginseng of the Gumsan region is associated with the ginseng of Baekjae. All three types of ginseng are white ginseng. Today, Korea is exporting the historical and traditional Korean ginseng to more than 80 foreign countries.
