This day-long session will focus on sharing experiences and essential training techniques to fill the needs of Indigenous Peoples and local communities engaging in REDD+ and Adaptation planning. The morning session will begin with guided discussions assessing training needs and gaps to promote the engagement of indigenous peoples, local communities and other stakeholder groups in addressing climate change issues. The session will also focus on how to deliver effective trainings for adult learners, and ideas for contextualizing training courses for different groups within a community, particularly women and elders. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own training experience and skills. In the afternoon, interactive “snapshot” sessions of training courses and tools currently available will provide a hands-on opportunity to understand the key concepts related to climate change, REDD+ and adaptation planning and to become more familiar with existing tools and training methods. The day will conclude with a feedback session, inviting participants to provide comments on how to improve access to training tools and materials, and how organizations developing training, local NGOs, governments, indigenous peoples and communities, can work together more effectively to build capacity with local stakeholders.
