Organised by UNEP-WCMC on behalf of the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP), this conservation campus event will be an opportunity to learn skills in developing biodiversity indicators for NBSAP targets, through sharing experiences and learning about the work of the BIP to support this activity. The event will be very timely, as most countries will be updating their NBSAPS in 2012-2013, including defining targets and indicators in support of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
The event will start with a brief introduction to 'what is an indicator' and their role in the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011 - 2020. The backbone of the event will be a role-play exercise that has been developed with great success in BIP capacity building workshops to learn the Biodiversity Indicators Development Framework. The exercise utilises fictional characters and countries to take participants through the stages of defining the purpose of indicators and communicating them. Participants share their progress and identify lessons learnt after each stage of the role-play exercise in a fun and informal environment.
We will conclude with a short discussion on what is required to have successful biodiversity indicators.
