Nature+ development: Green growth: myth or reality?

Ms. Naoko ISHII

Dr. Naoko Ishii is the CEO and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the largest public funder of programs to benefit the global environment. Dr. Ishii was unanimously selected by the GEF Council in June as the GEF’s fourth CEO and took office August 1, 2012. Previously Dr. Ishii served in the Japanese Government as Deputy Vice Minister of Finance where she provided oversight of Japanese development policies on Multilateral Development Banks and global environmental funds.

Ms. Fiona HARVEY

Fiona Harvey is an award-winning environment journalist for the Guardian. Prior to this, she worked for the Financial Times for more than a decade. She has reported on every major environmental issue, from as far afield as the Arctic and the Amazon, and her wide range of interviewees include Ban Ki-moon, Tony Blair, Al Gore and Jeff Immelt.

Mr. Peter BAKKER

Peter Bakker is a distinguished business leader who until June 2011 was the CEO of TNT NV the Netherlands based holding company of TNT Express and Royal TNT Post. Under his leadership TNT became a leader in Corporate Responsibility via a ground-breaking partnership with the UN World Food Program; ambitious CO2 reduction targets from its Planet Me initiative; and multiple-year leading positions in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

H.E. Dr. Kinzang DORJI

Lyonpo Dorji served as the Prime Minister of Bhutan twice in addition to his being a cabinet minister for ten years. He was the Minister of Agriculture and Forests and then Works and Human Settlement, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and Acting Minister for Finance. He has also held other important posts such as the Speaker of the Parliament, Chairman of the National Environment Commission, Chairman of Gross National Happiness Commission, Chairman of Bhutan Trust Fund for Environment Conservation among many others.

H.E. Ms. Heidi HAUTALA

H.E. Ms. Heidi Hautala is the Minister for International Development in the Finnish government since June 2011. She is in charge of development policy and cooperation and the government’s ownership steering issues. Prior to her minister post, Ms. Hautala was a member of the European Parliament and the chair of the Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights and thus in charge of the European Parliament’s human rights policy in EU external relations.

Mr. Achim STEINER

Acting on the nomination of Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the UN General Assembly in 2006 unanimously elected Achim Steiner as the Executive Director of UNEP for a four-year term. He became the fifth Executive Director in UNEP’s history. At its 83rd plenary meeting in 2010, the UN General Assembly, on the proposal of the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, re-elected Mr. Achim Steiner as Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme for another four-year term.

Mr. Soogil YOUNG

A senior Korean economist, Dr. Soogil Young has been serving as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Green Growth which he co-chairs with the Prime Minister since July 2010. He is also the founding Chairman of the Green Investment Korea Forum (GFIK). Dr. Young worked at four major governmental think tank on economic policies during 1978~1998, including at the Korea Development Institute (KDI) as a senior fellow, and at the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) as President at each.
