Implementation of restoration on degraded terrestrial and mangrove ecosystems in South East Asia

Restoration of degraded ecosystems and community forest help increase the resilience of local people by improving their additional incomes such as appropriate incentives or rewards for managing forest sustainably.

Engaging business for conservation

Considering business impacts and dependencies on biodiversity, there is an urgent need for the conservation community to engage with business. This conservation campus session is aimed at conservation organizations and, in particular IUCN members, that wish to engage business in delivering conservation goals. The session will provide guidance on how to set up and run engagements with progressive businesses. NGOs with experience in such engagements as well as businesses working with conservation organizations will share their experiences and recommendations.

Securing a future for sawfishes: SSC Shark Specialist Group

This session will 1) Highlight the dire situation for sawfishes, 2) Briefly present the findings of the Global Sawfish Conservation Strategy, including conservation activities that have been recommended, 3) Network with people ‘on the ground’ who will be able to implement the recommendations of the Strategy in collaboration with other Sawfish Network members.

Bushmeat: A collaborative partnership on sustainable wildlife management: CEESP/ SSC Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group (SULi)

This event aims to promote dialogue and debate in order to elaborate IUCN’s objectives for the Convention on Biological Diversity's proposed Collaborative Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management, and to clarify IUCN’s views on the scope of the partnership (regional and thematic), how it would function, and the roles different parts of IUCN could play. The format of the session will be a focused roundtable discussion involving all participants.

Restoration, preservation and utilization of Hanon Crater

Hanon is located in Seogwipo City, Jeju Island, The Republic of Korea is the biggest crater among the monogenetic volcanoes of Jeju and the only maar volcano in Korean peninsula.

Environmental Flows as a tool for the Water, Energy and Food Security nexus

This lunchtime pavilion event will look at putting nature in the Water-Energy-and Food Security Nexus by using Environmental Flows as a tool to ensure the needs of people and nature are met in a growing and increasingly urbanized world. Environmental flows provide the opportunity to put ecosystems at the centre of water allocation planning through recognising the role freshwater ecosystem play in providing water to people, nature, and key sectors of the economy such as agriculture and energy.

CEC and CEM Awards

This event will include the presentation of two new Commission awards followed by a reception.
Presentation of a CEC Award for best material in Spanish on environmental education about climate change adaptation. This contest was created in order to recognize and encourage environmental education specialists, from the formal and informal sector, who have created educational materials in Spanish, addressing the food production sector, as well as policy decision makers in the field of agriculture and fisheries for climate change adaptation.
