Progress in the implementation of the Amazon ecosystem-based conservation vision

In the Amazon the whole is more than the sum of the parts and a regional conservation is need to face the threats and drivers. This an inovative approach of the protected areas system of the region to complement national biological and cultural conservation strategies, thanks to the implementation of the Work Plan for Protected Areas of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which contributes to maintaining an Amazon that is whole, functional and resilient in the face of climatve change.

Building resilience in agricultural landscapes: finding solutions through business and conservation collaboration

A lack of tools for companies to engage on biodiversity and ecosystem services (BES) was highlighted in The Economics of Ecosystems & Biodiversity Business (TEEB) report. The first step for sustainable business is to identify the company's impacts and dependencies on BES. While companies strive to address the impacts of their operations, a broader approach is required in agricultural landscapes, to enable multiple stakeholders to assess BES risks, opportunities and interventions consistently.

Restoration ecology of Anzali wetlands invaded by Azolla

It is about wetland connectivities and the impact of manmade systems on the natural ecosystems. I´ll show how an invasive plant can finds its way from for example an agriculture feild to a wetland and threats the being of that ecosystem and the whole of biodiversity of them. And will describe the negetive effects of this invasive species on the environmental funcion of the nature and the loses that many stakeholder are affected by. In the last step I am going to introduse the easy measure to get rid of the stain. the way which would be ecologically and with out any side effect.

A one-day intensive course dealing with both theoretical and practical issues, and oriented to increase awareness about geodiversity and geoheritage, a subject recently incorporated into nature conservation and recommended for this WCC by Res. 4.040.

International legal fora available to individuals and NGOs to protect environmental and human rights

International law is increasingly providing fora for private citizens and NGOs to challenge unsustainable development across the world. These fora include compliance committees of international environmental treaties like Aarhus. They include judicial proceedings under human right treaties like ECHR. They include accountability mechanisms like the World Bank Inspection Panel. And they include friend of the court submissions in WTO dispute resolution.
