The Guadix Basin (Granada, Spain): two million years of geodiversity underpinning biodiversity.

The Guadix Basin (Granada, Spain) presents an exceptional Quaternary paleontological record of large mammals and a unique sedimentary record of climate and paleoenvironmental changes which are the basis for an innovative set of actions in this Mediterranean region of southwest Europe. The poster shows how well-planned management allows for the conservation and proper public use of highly-vulnerable and non-renewable paleobiological resources and modern semiarid badlands, both of them unique for Europe.

TerraLook: Free Satellite Images for Busy People or the Technologically Disinterested

Although satellite images are now widely available they are still underutilized by the conservation community. Yet, such images are tremendously useful for discovering and monitoring change, for understanding what is happening on the ground, and for simple and powerful communication.

A variety of reasons contribute to this under-use, including complicated systems for obtaining and processing images, the need for fast Internet connections, and the belief that images are too difficult to find and use.

Connecting the Dots: Landscape Connectivity, Resilient Communities, and a Global Network of Great Mountain Trails

The first part of the KC will briefly review the importance of mountain areas, and the key role of mountain trails as important platforms for expanded mountain connectivity, and improving resilience of mountain ecosystems and communities. Next, an open discussion will focused on why and how a global network on mountain trails may be establish, as a tool to advance mountain cultures and landscapes.

Enlarging and Connecting Protected Areas for Ecological Corridor of North East Asia

Protected areas are connencted with the BaekDooDaeGhan in the center in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.
However, it does not widely operate as an ecological network by disputes and borders.
Having the East Asia´s protected ecological corridor will make the wildlife possible to live in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.
And also it responds to the climate change. Therefore, we would like to urge to enlarge and connect the protected areas for ecological corridor.

Satellite Images for Conservation: A painless introduction using TerraLook

In this course you will first be introduced to satellite images and how they can be useful for conservation. Then, using the simple TerraLook software, a series of small projects will allow you to explore these uses on your own. TerraLook makes easy-to-use jpeg images available, for free, from anywhere on Earth, and provides a friendly tool to work with them. Current and historical images, back to the 1970s, make it easy to look for and document change.

World National Parks CEOs Forum

During recent years, many arguments have been advanced about the importance of protected areas and their role in shaping a sustainable future. At the same time, there is evidence that increasingly urbanized populations visit protected areas less, and there is a continuous flow of decisions that affect protected areas negatively including through mineral exploitation, infrastructure development or poorly resourced management.
