Youth at Congress: Strengthening community voices towards a ‘Just World’

This event highlights the role of empowering community voice in conservation policy development at the IUCN through examples and activities led by youth. It provides an informal space for young professionals and community leaders to engage the diversity of participants at the IUCN Congress (i.e. government officials, academics, NGOs, community representatives, and students) as an intergenerational community to discuss ways for youth to access decision-making processes at Congress and other IUCN forums.

Launch of Investing in Locally Controlled Forests Guide

Local, national and international groups and alliances of forest rights holders are working with the IUCN through the Growing Forest Partnership initiative and The Forests Dialogue to explore how to ensure that appropriate support and investments reach the people on the ground – “investing in locally controlled forestry”.

Forest Governance issues in Europe

The results of the last three years of the Forest Law Enforcement and Governance Project in Eastern Europe (ENPI-FLEG) will be presented, and two specific new developments will be launched. The first is a joint programme of activities on forest governance issues in Finland, together with UPM and the Finnish National Committee. The second is a programme on forest governance issues in the Caucasus, together with the IUCN Caucasus Cooperation Centre, IUCN Members in Georgia, European Commission and possibly a bilateral donor.

In this session we want to convene a group interested in establishing a network of Living Labs for Climate Change in order to promote cooperation among indigenous and traditional communities and mobilize the tools and support such a network.
