CEC Commission Members' Meeting

Dear CEC members,

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Congress and at the CEC Meeting in particular.

Attached (under documents) is the agenda for the CEC meeting on Thursday September 6th (09:30- 14:00), which will take place in Room 102 (or Yeongju Hall B) at the International Convention Center, ICC. This meeting will be followed by the Opening of the Congress at 17:00.

New Models for Engaging Local Communities in Stewardship of Protected Areas: Lessons from World Heritage

High profile protected areas, World Heritage sites and Biosphere Reserves serve as “learning laboratories for sustainable development” and demonstration sites for new ways to sustain ecosystems, species and genetic diversity. This workshop will feature models that make a practical local-to-global connection, building networks among successful projects and linking to financing options.

Launch of the 10 Year strategy to protect the crown jewels of the ocean

The objective of the event is to launch the new strategy for UNESCO's World Heritage Marine Programme. It will set out the goal of what the programme aims to achieve by 2022 and the actions and activities it plans to set up to get there.

Green environmental support center's role for solving the local environmental issues

Green Environment Centers (GEC) shall develop, distribute, educate and promote environmental technologies that meet the needs and specific conditions of each region and shall, in addition, actively participate in the exchange of information and the resolution of regional environmental issues in order to bring about environmentally friendly regions.

Partners in Conservation Capacity Building 

This networking event will provide an opportunity for interactive discussion among individuals and organizations involved in capacity building initiatives to address biodiversity conservation challenges in Asia and beyond.

BGCI Report Launch: Wild flora for rural livelihoods. The report highlights the huge importance of wild plants for livelihoods in Brazil, China, Mexico and India and the opportunities for inclusion of resource species in ecological restoration and maintaining connectivity between protected areas.
