Is REDD+ an opportunity for or a constraint for economic development in Central Africa?

REDD+ is a global phenomenon seeking to achieve reconciliation between economic growth and forest conservation and coincides with the ascendancy of devolved natural resources management policies, and creates opportunities for communities to be included in new, equitable and pro-poor approaches.

Impacts of large scale extractive companies on forest dynamics conservation and development in Central & West Africa

Over the past three decades operations of extractive industries have exponentially increased with serious impacts on forest, coastal and marine dynamics notably in services provided by these ecosystems for livelihood. The global economic crisis experienced in the 1990s and 2009 affected national economies of countries paving way to huge extractive concessions being sold and exploited a giveaway prices. There is little monitoring operations of extractive companies coupled with less control and ill adapted institutional framework to support compliance with environmental norms.

Towards a strengthened regional partnership for marine conservation in West Africa : PRCM

The objective of this event is to announce the launching of the Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West Africa, together with the main partners (IUCN, WWF, International Foundation for the BAnc d'Arguin - FIBA, Wetlands International - WI, the Sub Regional Fisheries Commmission - CSRP, The MAVA Foundation, Dutch Cooperation, others).

PRCM : A West African Coalition for Biodiversity Conservation

In 2003, IUCN, FIBA, WWF, and Wetlands International launched the Regional Marine and Coastal Conservation Program (PRCM) for West Africa. To date, this Coalition boasts a membership of over 50 organisations.
