♦ How can I apply to be a member of an IUCN Commission?

You can apply using the IUCN Commission System here:


  • Create an account.
  • Complete your profile.
  • Apply to the relevant IUCN Commission.

Your application will be reviewed and a response will be sent to you in due course.

♦ What is the status of my application?

You can view the status of your application by signing into the IUCN Commission System.

♦ I can’t create an account. Please help.

If you are unable to create an account, please contact the IUCN Commission Support Unit.

♦ I can’t sign in / log in to the IUCN Commission System or the Union Portal. What should I do?

When you create an account, change your password or update your profile, the IUCN’s systems take up to six hours for data synchronisation.
You can access the Commission System after the synchronisation of data is complete.

Please take into account if you copy / paste your password to skip whitespaces at the beginning or at the end.
Also, don’t forget to include the dot in your username (e.g. Peter.SMITH).

If the above does not resolve your issue, please contact the IUCN Commission Support Unit.

♦ I forgot my username/password (IUCN Account credentials). How do I obtain it?

Click here to have your IUCN Account username and password (credentials) e-mailed to you.

If you experience difficulty, you may also contact the IUCN Commission Support Unit.

♦ When I tried to recover my IUCN Account credentials, I received blank credentials. What should I do?

The IUCN’s systems take up to six hours for data synchronisation.
Please recover your credentials and access the system six hours after the creation of your account.

♦ How can I update my profile?

You can update your personal profile information in the IUCN Commission System at any time.
Sign in, check your profile details and update as required.

♦ I can’t apply to the Commission. Please help.

If you are unable to apply, it is possible that you have not filled all the mandatory fields - identified with a red star - when completing your profile.
All mandatory fields shown below need to be completed in order to be able to apply.

Personal Tab:

  • Title/Prefix
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Country of nationality
  • Preferred IUCN language
  • Gender
  • Date of birth

Communications Tab:

  • Primary email

Address Tab:

  • Street 1
  • City/Town
  • Country of residence
