There is today a growing awareness that many wetlands are more valuable in their natural, or only slightly modified state, than if drained, dyked or built upon.

This Action Plan lists 39 endangered and Vulnerable species and 55 “Potentially Vulnerable” species; in all 94 marsupials and 2 monotreme species that need some form of conservation action.

The eleven technical papers are the culmination of the first phase to review the natural resource status of these two areas, to design a fully integrated wetland management project, and to develop public awareness of the project's approach to integrating wetlands conservation and development.
