Capacitaci�nNational Red List Training workshops have been facilitated by IUCN staff or partners in Bangladesh, Estonia, Hawaii, Madagascar, and New Caledonia.
Convocar a partes interesadas/creaci�n de redesA side-event was held at CBD CoP12 (October 2014) in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea to discuss national Red Listing and the information document presented to CoP on this topic.
Convocar a partes interesadas/creaci�n de redesBraulio Diaz (CBD Secretary General) attended the May 2015 meeting of the Red List Committee during which many of the issues concerning national Red Lists and the flow of these assessments to the IUCN Red List were discussed. As a result, a CBD "Modes and Modalities" document has been compiled which outlines all the tools and resources available to enable countries to do Red List assessments.
Convocar a partes interesadas/creaci�n de redesThe National Red List Working Group (aka National Red List Alliance) holds monthly virtual meetings to discuss and plan national Red List activities. The Working Group ran a workshop at the IUCN SSC Leaders Meeting held in Abu Dhabi (17 Sep 2015) to look at practical and simple solutions to address barriers to national Red List assessments and other issues.
Actividades t�cnicas/cient�ficasA Data Uploader function has been developed to enable external institutions with Red List assessments (especially endemics) in their own database systems, to upload these to SIS for publication on the IUCN Red List. The system was developed and tested using assessments held in the Brahms database at RBG Kew, and will be further trialled out using datasets from other countries.
Actividades t�cnicas/cient�ficasBased on the response to the CBD Secretariat request to countries to report on national Red Lists produced, the National Red List Database has been updated. The database grew by almost 40% from 95,810 taxa in August 2014 to 155,664 taxa in August 2015. The library section of the National Red List website was also improved.
Actividades t�cnicas/cient�ficasThe Red List Committee agreed to allow the submission of assessments in other languages in the future, particularly French, Spanish and Portuguese. The SIS database and the Red List website will need substantial changes to enable this to become a reality.
Actividades t�cnicas/cient�ficasThe Species Information Service (SIS) database is being used on a test basis for compiling and storing data for national Red List assessment processes e.g. South African Mammal Red List, Jordan Plants Red List.

A number of National Red List training workshops have been held to build capacity and the network of trained Red List Trainers is slowly being expanded to help with this. Tools for Red List work are being improved, a key advance being the development of the Data Uploader to import assessments into SIS from external database systems. This should improve the incorporation of endemics on national Red Lists into the IUCN Red List. The decision by the Red List Committee to allow assessments to be submitted and published in selected other languages will have a significant impact on the whole process. The various stakeholder meetings have helped to identify various issues and barriers to national Red List activities and there has been a general increase in activity as evidenced by the growth of the National Red List database. The Modes and Modalities paper being prepared will help us to engage with all stakeholders. Efforts are underway to look at better mechanisms for providing biodiversity data to policy-related processes like the compilation of NBSAPs, etc.

The Modes and Modalities paper should help to get greater engagement with all CBD Parties. Fund raising efforts are helping to fund solutions to some of the technological obstacles.

Convocar a partes interesadas/creaci�n de redesThe Modes and Modalities document will be made available to the CBD Parties at SBSSTA 19 and a side-event around this will be held (November 2015). The document will be open to comment by the Parties. A revised version will be presented to SBSTTA 20 in 2016 with another side-event planned.
Recaudaci�n de fondosIUCN and ZSL have submitted a joint funding proposal to a donor to cover some of the activities outlined here, but much more additional fund raising is required
Actividades t�cnicas/cient�ficasDevelop a pilot project to see if the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) for Conservation can be extended to provide countries with key information on species, key biodiversity areas and protected areas to inform the NBSAP process. ZSL are developing other tools to help with NBSAP development and analysis of biodiversity data for other policy-relevant contexts.
Actividades t�cnicas/cient�ficasThe National Red List database needs to be redeveloped and the website enhanced; this includes building connectivity between the National Red List website and the IUCN Red List website.
