The East Asia Biodiversity Conservation Network (EABCN) was formed in 2014 to promote biodiversity conservation activities, joint research and to build capacity on Plant conservation in East Asia region. The EABCN was officially launch in October 2014 following the signature of a multilateral MOU in Pyeongchang with 6 members (5 countries and 6 institutions): China (CAS and South China Botanic Garden), Japan (Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute), Republic of Korea (Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, Mongolia (National University of Mongolia) and Russia (Botanical Garden Institute of Far East Branch, Institute of Applied Ecology). The EABCN focuses on three main areas: 1. Development of Biodiversity Inventories in East Asia; 2. Conservation for vulnerable plants to climate change; 3. capacity building of its members. In 2015, the EABCN was further developed and now its secretariat is hosted at the Korea National Arboretum. The EABCN published three books together with the Korea National Arboretum during 2014-2015 and organized several international workshops on Plant conservation in 2015.
¿Qué esfuerzos se están llevando a cabo para superar dichos obstáculos?:
Currently the EABCN is mostly supported financially by the Korea National Arboretum and more funding from the other members of the EABCN is needed to catalyze plant conservation in this region
