Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
SGE and IGME have been consulting stakeholders (academic and research institutions, amateur and collector groups, dealers and companies) to prepare, publish and distribute documents, legislative texts, guidelines, scientific studies and other information related with movable geological heritage. Compilation included best practices from Scotland, USA and other countries. Results were presented at national and international meetings, and published in national and international journals.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
Challenges relate to lack of resources, and lack of clear and broadly based IUCN constituency on this issue. Members have attempted to contact WCEL, but there has been no response.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
There is a need for a decision on the possible strategy, and whether there is the means to resource action (incl. possible partnership with UNESCO). Other actions will including disseminating information, preparing, publishing and distributing documents, working towards legislative texts, guidelines and scientific studies to facilitate proper management of movable geoheritage at all administrative levels (regional, national and international).
