ICES has produced a review of the issue on Evaluating and mitigating introduction of marine non-native species via vessel biofouling. as part of the recommendations on enhancing the IMO guidelines on biofouling in 2019-2020.
In 2018 GEF, UNDP and IMO, the GloFouling Partnerships includes interventions at the global, regional, national and local levels. Based on its initial focus in 12 developing countries in 7 maritime regions, the Project will help develop global best practices and tools, and demonstrate practical ways of overcoming barriers for their implementation, creating and enabling an environment for technology development and transfer. It is expected that by the end of the project all participating countries will demonstrate significant improvement in their legal, policy and institutional structures, with corresponding reduced risks from IAS introduction through biofouling.

At the time of reporting, there have been no activity reports on focused action on this resolution from IUCN,its members or commissions in 2019

The IMO will review the uptake of the Guidelines in 2019-2020. However, reliance on self-management with limited oversight and enforcement is insufficient for the vector’s control
