The major commitment by national governments to "Increase resources for biodiversity conservation research" is through Strategic Goal E of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, and in particularly Aichi Target 19 "By 2020, knowledge, the science base and technologies relating to biodiversity, its values, functioning, status and trends, and the consequences of its loss, are improved, widely shared and transferred, and applied" (https://www.cbd.int/sp/targets/#GoalE).

No clear mechanism for reporting on progress towards the Recommendation.

Ensuring the continuation of efforts to "Increase resources for biodiversity conservation research" into the post-2020 biodiversity framework; discussions on this are underway through the Convention on Biological Diversity.
