Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:

One training session for civil society organisation in the Mediterranean region in collaboration with French National Committee as part of the at 10th Anniversary of the PPI OSCAN programme. (Completed)

Education/Communication/Raising awareness:
- 1 Webinar: NbS webinar in collaboration with Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (19 Nov 2024): “Fundamentals of NbS” with 3 good example using the NbS Standards from Tour du Valat, PRIMA NATMed project, Les Amis du Capte. 150 people registered to the webinar from the Med region.
- 1 side-event: NbS at the Sun & Blue Congress (20-22 November 2024) as part of the Blue Tourism Initiative.
- IUCN global Business programme organised a four-day workshop on financing Nature-based Solutions (NbS), held in Casablanca, from December 2 to 5.
- Elaboration of publication in collaboration with the company CEPSA in Spanish: Ecosistemas degradados. Guía suplementaria para la utilización del estándar global de las Soluciones basadas en la Naturaleza de la UICN. Gland, Suiza: UICN.
- Elaboration of a storymap on An example of a Nature-based Solution for adapting to Global Environmental Change in Dune ecosystems under the framework of IMPETUS project. (Completed)

Field activities:
As part of the RESCOM project, coordinated by the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (MBC):  IUCN Med and GDPNA from Turkish government signed a cooperation agreement to support the effective implementation of RESCOM at the pilot site of Patara, a Special Environmental Protected Area (SEPA) in Antalya, Türkiye. This partnership will focus on developing a management and action plan for Patara SEPA, identifying priority Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to enhance the site’s conservation efforts.  IUCN Med within the project Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (RESCOM project) has launched a Call for Small Projects to mainstream Nature-based Solutions in the Mediterranean (October 2024). (On-going)

Scientific/technical activities:
- Internal document as Milestone within the Horizon project REAST COAST. This assessment aimed at obtaining measurable criteria for the RESTCOAST governance framework based on IUCN NbS Standard, as well as comparing with EU NbS indicators used for governance metrics applicable to the IUCN NbS Standard and complying with EU NbS, using the 9 pilot sites (5 in the Mediterranean region).
- Two European projects (Soilguard and NBSoil) related to soil and biodiversity:
a) In NBSoil (funded by Soil Mission): In progress analysis of the NbS categories (organic fertilisers from locally available biowastes, cover crops, paludiculture, forest diversification, bioremediation, and blue - green infrastructure in urban and periurban areas) in order to assess the use of selected practices in / interventions through the IUCN Global Standard for Nature Based Solutions (NbS), providing recommendations to better integrate those interventions within the NbS framework, with special attention to identification of synergies and trade offs, and mitigation for negative side effects. The Med team and Global NbS unit and the Global Economic Unit worked on the evaluation and recommendations.
b) Soilguard: Completed report on the soil biodiversity conservation and management recommendations on how implement interventions in which soil biodiversity acts as an NbS with 7 case studies. The Med team worked with the Euro office on the policy recommendations.
- Assessment of two restoration projects in dunes and wetlands in Catalonia against the NbS standard in the framework of the project IMPETUS. - Job position: IUCN Med is looking for a Nature-based Solutions expert to support IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation and the NaTour4CChange. (Completed)

Actions:
More than 200 hundred people were informed about the NbS standard with solid examples in the Mediterranean
More than 100 civil society organisations received training on NbS concept and standard.

More than 19 cases studies were evaluated against some indicators of the IUCN NbS standard.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The misuse of the term NbS persists across sectors such as civil engineering, agriculture, and tourism. Significant efforts are needed in the field to test the effectiveness of project classified as NbS in the Mediterranean region. Additional efforts are required from both the public and private sectors to incorporate NbS projects in addressing the triple crisis (climate change, pollution, and bi
