Rec 052 calls on the IUCN Regional Office for South America (IUCN-Sur) and the Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP) to promote a regional event with the participation of Members and experts.
As part of the South America Regional Conservation Forum, the ECOA's experience in successfully halting the construction of dams in the Alto Paraná River was highlighted during a session focused on effective mechanisms for river protection. The session also featured expert contributions from IUCN’s Environmental Law Centre, TNC Freshwater LATAM, and the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law (SPDA). It attracted an engaged audience of approximately 50 participants, predominantly from IUCN’s Membership, fostering dialogue and knowledge-sharing on innovative strategies to protect freshwater ecosystems in the region.
