The Ross Sea Marine Protected Area was designated by CCAMLR in 2016 and came into force in 2017. The MPA is 1.55 million square kilometers in size, 1.12 million square kilometers of which is no-take.

We will also continue to advocate for the expansion of the terrestrial protected areas network at Antarctic Treaty meetings so that the continent's biodiversity can also be preserved.
