Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
The IUCN CEESP/SSC SULi group, working with the IUCN Secretariat, and provided technical advice and support for the establishment of the CITES Rural Communities Working Group at the 69th meeting of the CITES Standing Committee, which is looking at ways to increase the participation of rural communities in CITES processes (including in actions to reduce IWT).
IUCN SULi, IUCN ESARO and IIED prepared a report that reviewed lessons learnt and best practice on engaging communities in sustainable wildlife management for combating unsustainable use and IWT.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The policy discourse on IWT is dominated by a focus on enforcement and demand reduction. This resolution is challenged in some respects by implementation of IUCN Resolution 011, and implementation of that resolution by IUCN does not appear to be based on engagement of those communities in combating IWT.

A community voice event in advance of the London Conference on IWT.
Short films highlighting community perspectives on illegal wildlife trade and what effective measures to combat it would be.
