Two key contributions to date are: (i) the publication of the IUCN issues brief on Peatlands and Climate Change, which was launched at UNFCCC COP23 to draw attention to the key contribution of this ecosystem towards addressing climate change, and (ii) IUCN's joining the Global Peatlands Initiative, a multi-partner initiative led by UNEP to save peatlands as the world’s largest terrestrial organic carbon stock and to prevent it being emitted into the atmosphere.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
Implementation of certain elements will require collaboration with other commissions referred to in the resolution (e.g. WCEL on legal aspects/preparation of draft legislation), the modalities of which will need to be worked out.
