Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Policy influencing/advocacy
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
Influenced, in part, by the strong messaging from IUCN and many of its members/partners, several parties to the UNFCCC have included ambitious nature-based solutions within the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that they submitted under the Paris Climate Change Agreement. One estimate, for example, suggests that around 40 NDCs include nature-based solutions in a highly-visible position (IDDRI 2016). IUCN together with its members has also estimated that 109 countries have included ecosystem-oriented visions for adaptation (IIED/IUCN 2016) and that 77% of NDCs contain references to ongoing/planned efforts in the forest sector (IUCN 2017).
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
However, IUCN's analyses also shows that relatively few of these NDC references are presently presented as robust, quantitative and trackable targets, which is a challenge to be overcome.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
This will require continued policy-influencing and capacity building efforts from both IUCN state and non-state members to ensure the stronger integration of nature-based solutions into national climate change strategies and policies, including in the next round of NDCs scheduled for 2020.
Are these actions planned for yet:
Yes
