FundraisingYa'axche Conservation Trust sought partnership to contribute towards improved protection, biodiversity conservation and increased investments for the benefit of the National Protected Areas System (NPAS) priority ecosystems and their buffering communities. PACT was identified as the key partner for this project as it is an integral organization for the conservation of natural resources in Belize; through an agreement with the Government of Belize PACT receives a portion of it's revenues from the conservation Fee of US$ 3.75 paid by overnight visitors and a fifteen per cent commission from cruise ship passenger head tax. Ya'axche has been a long term partner with PACT and recently received the grantee of the year award. Additional support was requested from PACT based on the Conversation Investment Strategy that identified Bladen Nature Reserve as a protected area of national significance. Completed
Veuillez indiquer quels ont été les résultats obtenus dans le cadre des activités entreprises pour la mise en œuvre de cette Résolution:
A partnership was developed with PACT towards improved protection and biodiversity conservation in the Bladen Nature Reserve. Referred to as the “crown jewel” of Belize’s protected areas, Bladen Nature Reserve (Bladen) is considered to be one of the most biodiversity-rich, and geographically unique areas within the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. Bladen forms much of the Maya Mountains Massif and is surrounded by three (3) important blocks of protected areas within Belize. Bladen is a crucial link between Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary to the northeast and Columbia River Forest Reserve to the southwest and Chiquibul National Park and Forest Reserve lie to the northwest. The area is located within the Mesoamerican hotspot for species diversity, and hosts one of the world's richest assemblages of biodiversity. The reserve also plays a crucial role in watershed protection. It preserves the quality of the water draining into the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and provides water for local communities and large agricultural areas on the coastal plain. Ya'axche received continued support for conservation activities in Bladen Nature Reserve from PACT.
