Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
The MPA coverage is improving steadily and IUCN and its members being very actively involved. the activities involves large parts of the IUCN membership both countries and NGOs with many nations establishing networks of MPAs and developing improved management programs. The current MPA coverage is 7.7% of the oceans and the pace of establishing MPAs has increased in the last few years.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
There are many paper parks that are not effectively managed our that permit various activities that make them much less effective at meeting their management objectives. OECMs are also being defined to provide for additional means to ensure long term conservation of marine biodiversity.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Post 2020 MPA targets are currently being discussed and additional means mobilized to improve management efficacy. Many countries are reviewing their management actions and getting support from NGOs and partners. The Blue Action Fund is starting implementation at this time supported by IUCN and implemented by IUCN members.
