Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
BirdLife International and Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) have been coordinating the IUCN SSC Helmeted Hornbill Working Group (under the IUCN SSC Hornbill Specialist Group).

The Hornbill Research Foundation organized a field-based hornbill capacity building workshop in May 2018 in Thailand.

In August 2018, following a huge collaborative effort which involved more than 30 organisations including BirdLife, the IUCN SSC Hornbill Specialist Group, Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP), Hornbill Research Foundation, Rangkong Indonesia, TRAFFIC, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Wildlife Reserves Singapore, a ten-year Conservation Strategy and Action Plan for the Helmeted Hornbill’s survival was launched (see link to document provided below).

Biodiversity And Nature Conservation Association (BANCA) in Myanmar, is carrying out rapid assessments of new Helmeted Hornbill populations in southern Myanmar.
Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is carrying out systematic monitoring of Helmeted Hornbills in Malaysia (Belum-Temengor) The Bird Conservation Society of Thailand (BCST) in Thailand (Khao Sok and Khlong Saeng forest complex).

BirdLife International is leading a collaborative project to identify the Helmeted Hornbill's population strongholds across the range countries. The project also identifies gap areas where rapid population assessments need to be carried out.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The full distribution of the species is not clear and additional surveys are required to identify additional species strongholds and prioritize their conservation on the ground.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Sarawak Forestry Corporation of Malaysia has called for a meeting between NGOs and governments on 19 - 20 February 2019 in Miri Sarawak to decide on the strategy to implement the CITES COP17 resolution conf. 17.11. BirdLife International, Wildlife Conservation Society and other NGOs will be joining this meeting.

BirdLife International, TRAFFIC and their collaborators are developing a project to understand the types of Helmeted Hornbill products sold physically and online in Chinese markets. This is to understand the drivers with a view of developing targeted demand-reduction campaigns.
Are these actions planned for yet:
Yes
Status of implementation
Status of implementation for this Resolution:
