As reported above, progress is good to date. In the future it would however also be useful to demonstrate progress on-the-ground to improve the conservation status of eel in response to the strong progress in building capacity and awareness. The re-assessment of all species for the IUCN Red List, to be published in 2019, should provide a good first indicator for progress to improve the status of anguilid eels. Where/if progress is shown, it would also be useful to investigate how this has benefited other freshwater species in the system, so demonstrating the value of the eel as a flagship species for wider conservation benefits in freshwater ecosystems.
Quelles mesures ont été prises afin de surmonter ces obstacles ?: 
The IUCN Secretariat has not been directly involved, ZSL is leading through the SSC AESG. The power of commercial interests is also always a challenge in promoting conservation actions for eels given their high commercial value and the requirement to use wild caught eels in the large scale aquaculture industry.
