Implémentation
Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Policy influencing/advocacy
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
There is a de facto moratorium on killing whales in the South Atlantic at this time. This is, however, not as secure as before since some countries have decided to leave the IWC.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The IWC loosing its ability to regulate all whaling nations opens the door for new whaling efforts. Engaging with the departing nations and building arguments based on science is the best way forward.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Further engagement with the potential whaling nations and working with the IWC.
Are these actions planned for yet:
Yes
Status of implementation
