Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
During the IUCN's ORMACC Regional Conservation Forum in May 2019 in Antigua, Guatemala, a global IUCN's IPO meeting took place, in which there was a discussion on Resolution 080. Asociation Sotz'il provided an update (workshop in 2018, follow up report still pending) and a discussion followed highlighting some of the challenges so far with the resolution (confusion as to what is meant by "categories", how this proposal relates with current IUCN categories, inconsistent and follow up actions). All IPO's agreed that it would be important to have a workplace for the coming year and Association Sot'zil from Guatemala and FPCI from Panama were tasked with circulating it.
As well during 2019, several capacity building side vents and workshops have been provided by the IUCN ORMACC secretariat in different events and spaces such as the Central America and Caribbean Protected Areas Congress in Lima to introduce IUCN's categories and clarify concepts and definitions about the categories.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
In this process, it has been evidenced the need to work on the understanding of technical aspects as to the outreach of this new categorization as well as to internalize this category in IUCN's. There is a need for more involvement of WCPA as to provide technical understanding and feasibility for this category.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
ORMACC in coordination with IPOs will continue supporting and facilitating the process upon available resources. ORMACC will coordinate to promote involvement of WCPA to provide technical support.
Are these actions planned for yet:
No
