Catalysing State and non-State actors for nature

In recent decades, partnerships and cooperative initiatives of state and non-state actors have been increasingly called upon by the United Nations to contribute transformative solutions to the challenges of sustainable development. Many of such initiatives strive to end hunger, mitigate climate change or build sustainable cities, and are most deeply connected to natural resources and land use to achieve their objectives. The present mapping draws a comprehensive landscape of 208 global coalitions undertaken by states and/or non-state actors, whose different missions drive direct and indirect impacts on biodiversity, harmful or restorative. Recommendations aim to inspire coalitions with new or enhanced commitments for biodiversity, adapted to their initial awareness and commitments, and highlight a set of best practices for coalitions and their members to accelerate biodiversity mainstreaming.
