Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
There have been activities are various levels: global, regional, national and local level.
Global level: The Global OECMs programme of work established, including forming of IUCN Secretariat global working group on OECMs with focal points established in 7 IUCN regions. Capacity development programme implemented across all 7 regions and global teams.
WCPA SG on OECMs produced in May 2022, simple and user friendly tool.
Funding received from Ministry of Environment Korea to implement a global, regional and national set of activities.
OECMs and Green List Standard of PCAs Alignment activity underway with a view to presenting findings at CBD COP in Montreal, December.
Consultancies underway on specialised topics: law and policy for OECMs and sustainable landscapes (drylands).
Funding secured to finance a consultant to liaise between IUCN Secretariat and the IUCN WCPA Specialist Group on OECMs
WCMC also engaged via the BIOPAMA programme of work in 4 regions (ESARO, PACO, ORO and ORMACC)
Engagement with the ICCA Consortium on joint areas of work with a view to co-developing a programme of work for 2023
Regional: 2 regional strategies designed and being implemented (ARO and ESARO) with strategies underway in BIOPAMA/ACP countries (PACO, ORO, ORMACC).
EU project secured NARROW to influence EU regional biodiversity policy and seconded staff member from UNIL Lausanne work on global OECMs programme of work until March 2025.
Asia Protected Areas Partnership (APAP) engaged on capacity development programme of work.
IKI ECARO project in proposal design phase of 6 months, law and governance work packages on OECMs being designed for five countries.
National and sub-national level:
Site level tool roll out across 7 regions.
Projects funding work in Korea and DRC.
National dialogues underway in 3 regions (Asia, ESARO, PACO)
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
Lack of single source funding to ensure smooth implementation of the Res. Rather, funding has been used from several projects and has relied heavily on the in kind staff time contributions from regional IUCN colleagues.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
At CBD COP15, a major launch of the IUCN 30x30 Challenge including the programme of work on OECMs should take place to attract donors and CBD Parties.
