As a doctoral student at the Doctoral School "Management of Natural Resources and Development" at the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, her research work focuses on the governance of Madagascar's mining resources for sustainable development, RAKOTOARISAONA Tahiana Lucette, author of this report and focal point of the CMDE, participated in the colloquium organized by the Doctoral School from October 18 to 21, 2022 at the University of Antananarivo, with the theme "Do we value our natural resources at their fair value? by presenting orally his paper entitled "Analysis of the effectiveness of environmental democracy in the legal and political mechanisms governing the mining sector in Madagascar - Case of multinational companies". Through a double disciplinary perspective: law and political economy, the article aims to critically analyze mining policies, legislation and strategies in relation to governance based on environmental democracy. In this sense, the objective is to identify the gaps and challenges, but also the good practices and efforts undertaken in this area. Given that Madagascar's Mining Code is currently undergoing a process of reform, this paper will serve as a reference guide for policy makers and all stakeholders, targeting priority legal and policy reforms to reduce the environmental impacts of the mining industry.
