Indicate and briefly describe any actions that have been carried out to implement this Resolution:
ActionDescriptionStatus
FormationA capacity-building workshop to train firefly experts in Red List assessment was conducted in 2022 to evaluate the firefly status in Southeast Asian mangroves and the full assessment was completed in 2023. Completed
Activits techniques/scientifiquesStandardized questions were developed for firefly scientists in Malaysia to gather relevant information on congregating fireflies in mangrove habitats.Completed
Veuillez indiquer quels ont été les résultats obtenus dans le cadre des activités entreprises pour la mise en œuvre de cette Résolution:
Fireflies in mangrove forests are economically important as they attract tourism revenue. However, they are threatened like most habitat specialists. Based on the IUCN Red List, four species of fireflies in Southeast Asian mangroves have been preliminarily classified as Endangered, pending official publication.

A set of questionnaires to gather information on fireflies in mangrove forests is now available for distribution among local firefly experts.
Quelles mesures ont été prises afin de surmonter ces obstacles ?:
There needs to be more funding to support data collection on various mangrove habitats and to convene stakeholders in a workshop to identify, discuss and analyse threats to mangrove habitats in Malaysia that would also threaten firefly populations. To overcome this problem, we will continue to apply for funding from various resources. We will also work closely with other relevant partners.
Veuillez indiquer et décrire brièvement les activités planifiées par la suite pour la mise en œuvre de cette Résolution:
Activité FutureDescription
Rassembler des parties prenantes/Rseautage(i)Capacity building workshop with various stakeholders on the awareness of the importance and urgency of conserving fireflies in mangrove forests; (ii) Develop a national action plan for the conservation of fireflies in mangrove forests
Education/Communication/SensibilisationDissemination of questionnaires and conducting a meeting with local experts to enhance understanding of the importance of conserving mangrove forests using fireflies as model organisms
Activits de terrainData will be collected to verify the distribution of fireflies in mangrove forests in Malaysia – this fieldwork will include identifying the firefly species and the mangrove tree species they use as congregation places. Additionally, tourism activities and other natural resources used by locals in the vicinity of the mangrove habitat will be recorded.
