Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
SPDA has developed a technical report analyzing the most effective mechanisms for free-flowing river protection in Perú, accompanied by a proposed law on the matter. These documents provide a solid foundation for drafting a letter to the Peruvian State, which could be followed by a workshop to influence public policy.

SPDA and SUR have agreed that the Regional Director for South America could sign the letter, with support from the Global Water and Wetlands Team. A final agreement on this initiative is pending among all resolution sponsors, a meeting planned for early 2025. The development of an agenda and budget for a meeting with Peruvian authorities will follow

Additionally, during the South America Regional Conservation Forum, SPDA’s work on effective mechanisms for river protection in Peru was highlighted in a dedicated session. This included their proposal for a *Law Protecting the Marañón River*. The session featured expert contributions from IUCN’s Environmental Law Centre, TNC Freshwater LATAM, and ECOA, and engaged an audience of approximately 50 participants, primarily from IUCN’s membership. The discussion fostered valuable dialogue and knowledge-sharing on innovative strategies to protect freshwater ecosystems in the region.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
While SPDA remains a key driver, support among other resolution sponsors has been more limited.
Additionally, budget constraints impact SUR's ability to travel and our capacity to cover venue and catering costs for the proposed meeting with Peruvian authorities.
