Education/Communication/SensibilisationThe Handbook on Cranes and Agriculture: Humans and Cranes Sharing the Landscape was distilled into a summary document that is more user friendly and therefore more accessible for practical implementation for conservationists, farmers, and locally based decision makers. It is available in English and Chinese and is available on various platforms for download. It was shared across a number of distribution lists internationally.On-going
Activits techniques/scientifiquesA research project was initiated in 2024 across Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda to better understand the damage cranes cause to crops (seasonality, type of crop, and growth stage), the perceptions of human-crane conflict from farmers, to identify and map the key poisoning and human-crane conflict areas, and to test various crop deterrent methods to prevent human-crane conflict. On-going
Veuillez indiquer quels ont été les résultats obtenus dans le cadre des activités entreprises pour la mise en œuvre de cette Résolution:
An improved understanding of human-crane conflicts occuring in agricultural landscapes is being gained. Once the situation is well understood and effective mitigation measures are identified through this research, the information will be disseminated to farmers and land managers, as well as to the relevant government departments and other stakeholders to encourage wider dissemination of knowledge and policy enforcement within agricultural landscapes.
Quelles mesures ont été prises afin de surmonter ces obstacles ?:
None to date

Activité FutureDescription
Education/Communication/SensibilisationOnce we understand more fully the human-crane conflict situation and know what effective measures can be used to mitigate the situation, we will share this information as widely as possible and encourage the uptake of cost effective and efficient methodologies. We will also encourage the uptake of mitigation methods through effetive partnerships. We will also use this information to enrouage governments to adopt and enforce supporting policies
Activits techniques/scientifiquesComplete the research projects currently in progress and consolidate the results into a single document for ease of use.
