Capacity-buildingTwo capacity building workshops held in Tanzania to train judges, prosecutors and investigators.
Education/Communication/Raising awareness WILDLEX (www.wildlex.org) a web-based database of judicial cases on wildlife crime and illegal trade with almost 300 cases was developed. Discussions have taken place with relevant stakeholders to provide cases and materials from other countries, including Argentina, Ecuador, Australia, Uganda, Kenya and the United States.
Scientific/technical activitiesThrough the collaboration with GIZ and TRAFFIC, IUCN Environmental Law Centre has conducted an analysis of nearly 300 court cases related to wildlife crime in Tanzania. The analysis report will focus on trends in conviction rates, conviction rate per region and trends in the penalties applied (fine and jail sentences) for the initial trial cases, and identify percentage of overturned appealed...
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken: 
Centred on the WILDLEX platform, a voluntary network of lawyers will be engaged in the collection and analysis of case laws on wildlife crime. Potential collaboration with the UN Office for Drugs and Crimes is undertaken.
