Policy influencing/advocacyThe number of tourist to come to Okinawa prefecture is increasing. At present 8,760,000 tourists annually. Okinawa prefecture set goal to increase the number as 17,000,000. Aamami oshima(island), Kagoshima prefecture, has the slimier tendency to increase the number of tourists. Both prefectures build new hotels and new ports and so on. However these prefectures don't enforce pathway management for introduction of invasive alien species. We sent a request titled 'Request concerning the IUCN field mission of proposed World Heritage sites in Amami-Oshima Island, Tokunoshima Island, the northern part of Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island' to IUCN last march. In this request we stated the above problem as well. http://www.nacsj.or.jp/archive/2017/03/3830/ On-going
What challenges have you encountered in implementing this Resolution and what measures have you taken to overcome them?:
It is difficult for the Government of Japan and local governments to understand there are growing opportunities for the introduction of alien species through tourism and military activities in the Ryukyu islands and there is need to strengthen measures for preventing the entry of alien species at ports of arrival.
Identify and briefly describe what future actions are planned for the implementation of this Resolution:
